Abstract

This study aims to improve the understanding of fourth grade students at SDN Sukaharja 2 on the material of the value of helping and the characteristics of hypocrites through the application of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) method. The background of this study is the low understanding of students on the material of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) related to moral values ​​in everyday life. This study uses the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method of the Kemmis & McTaggart model which consists of two cycles, each covering the planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The instrument used in this study was a multiple-choice test of 20 questions to measure the level of student understanding. The results of the study showed a significant increase in student learning completeness, namely from 29.04% in the pre-cycle to 74.19% in cycle I, and increasing to 100% in cycle II. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of the Problem-Based Learning method is effective in improving students' understanding of the value of helping and the characteristics of hypocrites.
