KAJIAN PEMIKIRAN IMAM AL GHAZALI TENTANG PENILAIAN DAN EVALUASI

This article examines evaluation and assessment in Islamic education by emphasizing the philosophical and pedagogical views of Imam Abu Hamid al-Ghazali, a highly influential Muslim scholar and thinker. Although al-Ghazali did not directly develop modern evaluation methodologies, his thoughts on the goals of education, moral development, and the division of knowledge provided a deep theoretical foundation for understanding how achievement and success should be measured in Islamic education. This study examines al-Ghazali's key works, particularly Ihya' ‘Ulum al-Din and Ayyuha al-Walad, to identify assessment indicators that go beyond the cognitive dimension. The results indicate that, in al-Ghazali's view, assessment should look holistically, focusing more on internal qualities and practices than simply the quantity of knowledge. The core of evaluation is the development of good character, sincerity of intention, and the beneficial application of knowledge. Assessment serves as a means for self-reflection for students and as a way to ensure that education brings them closer to God. Therefore, this article argues that al-Ghazali's views provide a relevant evaluation framework for contemporary Islamic education, emphasizing the importance of integrating spiritual, ethical, and intellectual aspects.
