PEMIKIRAN IBN AL-SALAH TENTANG ILMU HADIS DAN KONTRIBUSINYA TERHADAP PENGEMBANGAN MUSTHALAH AL-HADIS

Abstract

The writing of the Prophet’s hadith began during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), although at that time permission to record hadith was granted only to certain Companions who were directly instructed by him. After the Prophet’s death, the systematic collection of hadith that were scattered among various transmitters had not yet been undertaken, because the primary concern of the Companions was focused on the compilation of the Qur’an. The official codification of hadith was initiated during the caliphate of ‘Umar ibn ‘Abd al-‘Aziz through his directive. Although some hadith had previously been written down, these efforts were neither formal nor organized in a systematic manner. A structured and systematic compilation of hadith first appeared in the work of Imam Malik, namely al-Muwaththa’, compiled around 143 H, which is also categorized as a mushannaf, as the hadith it contains are arranged according to specific thematic subjects. Following the emergence of Imam Malik’s work, a number of hadith collections were produced that examined hadith not only from the perspective of transmission, but also in terms of the narrators and other related aspects. The study of the Prophet’s hadith then developed rapidly, as evidenced by the proliferation of works that explored the various dimensions of hadith. Among these are books devoted specifically to the sciences of hadith, such as Ibn al-Salah’s Muqaddimah, which discusses the various disciplines of hadith studies, including the definition of hadith, technical terminology, classifications of hadith, and other methodological issues.
