KONSEP EVALUASI MENURUT IMAM AL-GHAZALI UNTUK MENGUKUR SIKAP KOGNITIF

Evaluation is an essential part of the education system as it functions to measure the success of the learning process. However, in practice, evaluation often focuses solely on cognitive aspects such as mastery of the material, while neglecting the moral and spiritual dimensions of the students. In contrast, Islamic education demands a comprehensive and holistic approach to evaluation. Imam Al-Ghazali, a prominent scholar in the field of Islamic education, offers an evaluation concept through the principle of al-Muhasabah, which emphasizes self-introspection by assessing one’s character, intentions, and spiritual awareness. This study aims to explore and analyze the concept of evaluation according to Imam Al-Ghazali and its relevance in assessing students’ cognitive attitudes. Using a library research method, the study examines Al-Ghazali’s works and other supporting literature to develop a conceptual framework for evaluating cognitive attitudes integrated with Islamic values. The findings indicate that the principles of al-Muhasabah can form a more holistic evaluation model that not only measures students’ intellectual abilities but also assesses aspects of responsibility, integrity, and intellectual honesty. Evaluation from Al-Ghazali’s perspective also highlights the importance of connecting the intellect, the heart, and divine revelation, making it highly relevant to the needs of 21st-century education. Therefore, the implementation of an al-Muhasabah-based evaluation concept can serve as an effective alternative to develop students who excel not only in knowledge but also in strong spiritual character. This concept is highly suitable to be applied in the Islamic Religious Education curriculum as an integrative effort between academic assessment and moral character development.
