Abstract

This qualitative study employing a library research approach aims to analyze the relevance and implementation of the Arabic language as a medium of tarbiyyah Islamiyyah in Islamic education. Arabic holds a fundamental position as it is the language of the Qur’an, the Prophetic Hadith, and the sources of Islamic law, making it a key means for deeply understanding religious teachings. Therefore, the primary motivation of Muslims, particularly in Indonesia, in learning Arabic is to study and comprehend the Qur’an, the Hadith, and Islamic legal rulings; moreover, Arabic also functions as the language of worship for Muslims. This condition has often led to the perception that Arabic is sacred and exclusive. However, along with the development of the modern era, Arabic has experienced an expansion of its function and learning orientation, particularly with the emergence of language courses, schools, and universities that teach Arabic as a language of communication. Arabic is now recognized as an international language of communication and as one of the official languages of the United Nations, so its mastery opens opportunities for international communication in the fields of education, diplomacy, economics, and global cultural exchange. The implementation of Arabic in Islamic education includes the integration of value-based curricula, the application of communicative and contextual learning methods, the utilization of educational technology, the development of a language environment (bī’ah lughawiyyah), and the strengthening of teachers’ competencies. All of these efforts are directed toward creating a holistic and effective educational process aimed at producing a generation that is faithful, morally upright, and intellectually as well as socially competent in response to global developments.
