Abstract

Indonesia stands as a nation of extraordinary religious and cultural plurality, home to six officially recognized religions and hundreds of local belief systems. In this complex mosaic, Islam as the majority religion adhered to by approximately 87% of the population holds a strategic responsibility in shaping the quality of interreligious relations. This study aims to analyze the role of Islam in strengthening interreligious dialogue and building bridges of peace amid Indonesia's diversity. A qualitative approach was employed through systematic literature review, drawing on academic journals, official reports, and relevant policy documents published between 2020 and 2025. The results show that Islamic values particularly the principles of rahmat, tasamuh, and musyawarah provide a theological basis for inclusive dialogue. The Islam Nusantara model championed by Nahdlatul Ulama has emerged as a globally recognized paradigm of peaceful coexistence. Nevertheless, challenges persist in the form of radicalism, digital hate speech, and horizontal conflicts at the local level. Strengthening Islamic moderation through educational institutions, social organizations, and community-based dialogue mechanisms is essential for sustaining peace in Indonesia's multi-religious society.
