Abstract

This study explores the significance of digital literacy based on the principle of tabayyun in preventing religious hoaxes on social media platforms. The rapid development of digital technology has facilitated the swift dissemination of information, while simultaneously increasing the spread of fake news, misinformation, and misleading religious content. In this context, tabayyun refers to the practice of verifying and clarifying information before accepting or sharing it. This research employs a qualitative approach using a literature review method to analyze the concepts of digital literacy, tabayyun, and religious hoaxes through various relevant sources. The findings indicate that digital literacy grounded in tabayyun can foster critical, selective, and responsible attitudes in evaluating religious information on social media. Furthermore, the integration of tabayyun values into digital literacy contributes to preventing the spread of hoaxes, maintaining social and religious harmony, and strengthening Islamic communication ethics in the digital era. Therefore, tabayyun serves as an essential principle in creating a healthy, wise, and value-oriented digital environment based on Islamic teachings.
