Abstract

This paper aims to research and reveal the meaning of Ramadan as a month of literacy by making a hadith from Ibn 'Abbās Ra that mentions tadārus al-Qur'an and the generosity of the Prophet Saw in the month of Ramadan as the object of study. Implicitly, the hadith alludes to two values of literacy in the month of Ramadan and the relationship between the two, namely intellectual literacy symbolized by tadārus al-Quran and social literacy symbolized by generosity (al-jūd). This hadith has been widely quoted and discussed, both in writing and in the pulpits, but no one has discussed it from the point of view of literacy like this writing. Through the framework of thematic hadith studies, this paper wants to elaborate on the hadith extensively, ranging from takhrīj (tauṡīq and naqd) and lectures to discussions and analysis of Ramadan literacy values, both intellectual literacy and social literacy contained in the hadith.
